Principal Instrument Engineer - Hydrogen Project

Principal/Lead C&I Engineer - (Temporary - FEED Hydrogen Project)Location: Manchester Duration: 6 months as a minimumRate: £60 - £75 per hour (negotiable depending on experience)Hours: 40 per week Industry: Hydrogen / Energy / Process Engineering Type: Temporary ContractOverview:An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Principal/Lead Control & Instrumentation (C&I) Engineer to join a dynamic team in delivering a Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) project for an innovative hydrogen process plant. This role requires technical expertise, leadership skills, and client-facing experience to ensure successful project execution.Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership and instrument discipline input for FEED projects.
  • Prepare, review, and approve engineering documentation, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Allocate tasks and manage project deliverables against timelines and budgets.
  • Oversee the procurement and specification of control systems, instrumentation, and analysers.
  • Ensure adherence to national and international codes, regulations, and standards.
  • Conduct technical bid assessments and supplier evaluations.
  • Lead safety case preparation, including cybersecurity verification and validation activities.
  • Support installation planning for instrumentation in potentially explosive environments.
Requirements:
  • Degree in Electronic, Electrical, or Control Engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (or close to achieving it).
  • Extensive knowledge of UK legislation and standards relevant to process plant engineering.
  • Competency in instrumentation installation for hazardous areas.
  • Strong problem-solving and leadership skills with the ability to manage multidisciplinary teams.
