We are currently seeking a Senior Civil Design Engineer with extensive experience in the water sector to join our growing team. The role As a Senior Civil Design Engineer, you will be responsible for taking the lead on designing and delivering complex water-related infrastructure projects. This role is ideal for a candidate with expertise in civil and structural engineering, particularly within the water industry. You will manage projects from concept to completion, ensuring high standards of technical excellence, efficiency, and safety, while also mentoring junior engineers. Location: Stretford, Manchester Duration - 12 months + Rate: £55.00 - 60.00 Ltd per hour (Outside of IR35 subject to an IR35 Assessment confirming outside status.) Hours: 40 hours per week Working Arrangement: Hybrid (3 days from the office, 2 days from home) Your duties and responsibilities will be

  • civil design of water sector projects, including waste water treatment plants, sewage networks, and clean water networks.
  • Prepare detailed design calculations, drawings, and specifications, ensuring compliance with relevant codes of practice and industry standards.
  • Manage and oversee the successful delivery of projects from initial design through to construction and commissioning.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure an integrated approach to project delivery.
  • Conduct site inspections and surveys to ensure design accuracy and compliance.
  • Maintain close communication with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory authorities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers, fostering a collaborative learning environment.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources, ensuring on-time and within-budget project delivery.
  • Address complex engineering problems and propose practical, cost-effective solutions.
  • Stay up to date with relevant design codes, standards, and innovations within the water sector.
  • Ensure that health, safety, and environmental standards are adhered to at all stages of the project.

You will have the following qualifications and experience

  • Degree Qualified: A degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience: Previous experience in civil/structural design, particularly within the water sector, including waste water treatment plants, sewage networks, or clean water networks.
  • Professional Development: Actively working towards chartered membership of either the ICE (Institute of Civil Engineers) or IStructE (Institution of Structural Engineers).
  • Design Expertise: Strong technical ability in civil/structural design, with a thorough understanding of commonly used design codes of practice, as well as experience in reinforced concrete design.
  • Site Experience: Practical experience in site-based activities, such as site inspections, surveys, and design validation.
  • Commercial Awareness: Strong understanding of the commercial aspects of engineering projects, including cost management, budgeting, and contract delivery.
  • Change Management: Experience managing design changes and understanding their impact on project scope, budgets, and timelines.
  • Leadership: Experience in leading a team of engineers, providing technical direction and guidance.
  • IT Proficiency: Proficient in relevant design software, such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and other engineering tools.
  • Communication: Excellent oral and written communication skills, capable of explaining complex ideas and technical concepts to clients and stakeholders.
  • Self-Management: Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and effectively prioritise tasks.
  • Problem Solving: Demonstrated ability to address and resolve engineering challenges with practical solutions.
  • Health & Safety: Familiar with current Health & Safety legislation and best practices.
  • Motivation: Self-motivated with a passion for civil engineering and a commitment to delivering high-quality solutions.
