Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) is seeking residents' views on how travel around Manchester city centre could be improved.

Residents of Greater Manchester can have their say in an online consultation, responses from which will be used to decide where investment goes.

Feedback could be based around any type of journey which you take or have taken into the city centre; whether it's travelling for work, leisure, shopping, or something else.

TfGM has said it is looking to make journeys "safer, more reliable, and more sustainable".

At current, plans to do this include:

  • Bus stop improvements - greater accessibility and safety
  • Better pedestrian and cyclist footpaths, making it easier to "walk, wheel or cycle"
  • "A range of measures" to help shorten bus journey times and make services more reliable

A TfGM spokesperson said: "These [plans] could also bring a range of further benefits, including reducing the impact of transport on the environment by getting more people on buses and walking, wheeling and cycling."

Funding for the changes will come from the Government's City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement.

Danny Vaughan, Chief Network Officer at TfGM said: "We are always looking at how we can make it easier for people to get around and want people to get in touch and let us know how we can do just that.

"The improvements we put in place will ultimately form a vital part of the Bee Network - our plan for a joined-up London-style transport network, helping us to make journeys more reliable, safer and more sustainable."

Cllr Tracey Rawlins, Manchester City Council's executive member for clean air, environment and transport, said: "An essential part of a successful city is making sure our residents and visitors can get around easily and efficiently.

"Having great travel options also gives us all the opportunity to help reduce car travel – particularly for shorter journeys – to limit the city's carbon emissions and improve the quality of our air.

"As ever, one of the best ways to better understand how easy it is – or not – to travel around Manchester is by asking the very people who do it day in, day out. This is your chance to help guide our thinking about travel in Manchester and suggest ways you think we can make it better."

The consultation closes on Sunday 20 October.
