Manchester is among the top five nationally when it comes to interest in weight loss medication.

That's according to research by an online pharmacy company which measured the average number of searches for weight loss medication across the UK.

The study found that, in Manchester, there were 1,482 searches per month, per 100,000 residents.

Under those metrics, Manchester ranks as the fifth highest in the UK when it comes to volume of searches for 'weight loss medication', and other related terms.

Topping the list was Bolton, with an average of 2,159 monthly searches per 100,000 people.

Also high in the ranking were Croydon, Doncaster, and Wakefield, which placed second, third, and fourth respectively.

Other Greater Manchester areas Stockport and Salford also placed highly, at seventh and eighth respectively.

The area with the least apparent interest in weight loss medication was Oxford, with just 278 monthly searches per 100,000 people.

The research was carried out by Simple Online Pharmacy, in light of the recent surge in demand for weight loss drugs and the corresponding global supply challenges.

The methodology involved using Google Keyword Planner; researchers looked at the average number of monthly searches for weight loss medication-related terms, such as 'weight loss medication cost' and 'weight loss drugs', alongside names of various weight loss medications, such as 'Wegovy', 'Mounjaro' and 'Saxenda'.

Commenting on the findings, Addy Mohammed, CEO of Simple Online Pharmacy, said: "The recent increase in weight loss searchers has undoubtedly led to a huge increase in interest for weight loss medications over the past year, with people moving to see if they are eligible for weight loss medications available on the NHS."
