EAL Teaching Assistant

Key Responsibilities:
Language Support: Provide targeted 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with English as an Additional Language, helping them develop speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills.
Curriculum Access: Adapt learning materials and classroom resources to support understanding and participation in lessons.
Individualised Learning: Identify language barriers and implement strategies to help pupils overcome these challenges, promoting confidence and independence.
Collaboration: Work closely with class teachers, SENCO, and other staff to plan and deliver effective EAL support.
Progress Monitoring: Track pupil progress, maintain accurate records, and contribute to EAL progress reports and intervention plans.
Inclusion: Promote an inclusive classroom environment that values diversity, celebrates different cultures, and encourages peer support.
Parental Engagement: Support communication with parents and carers where English may not be their first language, helping build positive relationships.
Safeguarding: Uphold safeguarding and child protection policies to ensure a safe and supportive learning environment.

Experience & Qualifications:
Qualifications: Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent) preferred.
Experience: Previous experience supporting EAL pupils in a primary or secondary school setting desirable.
Training: Understanding of EAL strategies and approaches (e.g., scaffolding, visual support, language modelling) preferred; safeguarding training provided.
Eligibility Requirements:
Right to Work in the UK.
Enhanced DBS certificate or willingness to apply for one.
Two professional references related to relevant educational experience.
