This is a rare and rewarding opportunity for a passionate Head of School to lead a bespoke educational environment that supports children and young people with autism, learning difficulties, and complex behavioural needs. Responsibilities of the Head of School:

  • As Head of School, you will lead the daily operations and strategic development of a highly specialist SEND setting.
  • The Head of School will oversee teaching and support staff, ensuring high standards in education, behaviour, and pupil wellbeing.
  • Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead, maintaining compliance with all statutory requirements.
  • The Head of School will drive curriculum innovation tailored to individual learning pathways.
  • Monitor pupil progress and staff performance to ensure ongoing development and support.
  • Lead Ofsted readiness and all aspects of school compliance and policy.
  • Foster strong partnerships with families, local authorities, and multi-agency professionals.
  • The Head of School will provide professional development, coaching, and support to staff.
  • Manage resources, budgets, and health & safety requirements to ensure an efficient, safe environment.
  • Represent the school as a visionary and compassionate Head of School in all internal and external communications.

Essential Requirements for the Head of School:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Minimum two years' experience in a leadership or middle leadership role.
  • Experience in a SEND setting, ideally with autism and/or behavioural needs.
  • A thorough understanding of safeguarding practices and SEND code of practice.
  • Excellent organisational, leadership, and interpersonal skills.

Desirable for the Head of School:

  • Additional SEN leadership qualifications.
  • Experience with Ofsted inspections and school improvement.
  • Familiarity with bespoke curriculum design and personalised learning plans.
