We are looking for an experienced Shift Leader who can efficiently coordinate resources to ensure all shift activities are completed as required. While this role does not involve direct budget responsibilities, it does require effective people management on a shift-by-shift basis. Decisions are typically made within established parameters, drawing on prior experience, with any significant issues escalated to a manager. The role also involves regular interaction with team members, colleagues from other departments, auditors, suppliers, and customers.

What's the purpose of role:

To be an active team member ensuring that all work is completed in accordance with a daily work schedule. As a shift leader you will be responsible for ensuring that information received is communicated to the appropriate parties in a timely, effective manner developing and sustaining effective customer relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. You will direct a productive, results driven team ensuring that all compliance standards are met.

Who you'll deal with:

Internal: Team Manager, other Shift Leaders, Bond and Flight employees, other units, Central Services Team at Manchester, support functions, Operations Manager/ Flight Services/ General Manager.

External: Airlines, HMC&E, DfT, auditors, contractors, EHO

What you'll be doing:

  1. Ensure work is completed according to daily work schedules and all costs are within agreed targets
  2. Manage the roster effectively on a shift basis to ensure the work schedule is maintained whilst being mindful of costs
  3. Responsible for ensuring that team members carry out duties in line with work schedule
  4. Monitor work, highlight, and escalate any issues accordingly
  5. Ensure the work schedule is maintained by shift, taking effective corrective action as required highlighting any on-going issues to the appropriate Shift Leader/ Team Manager
  6. Ensure standards of external and internal customer service are met
  7. Deal with all issues or customer requests in a timely manner, escalating matters which cannot be resolved to the appropriate manager
  8. Adhere to all Legislation, Company Policy and Customer Requirements ensuring team members follow agreed procedures
  9. Adhere to security regulations and ensure security instructions and procedures are followed at all times
  10. Ensure familiarity with all Fire Procedures within the unit as instructed through fire training
  11. Ensure HACCP Food and Personal Hygiene Procedures are adhered to at all times
  12. Carry out Daily Compliance Checks and communicate any issues appropriately
  13. Ensure housekeeping activities are undertaken by team members
  14. Check Vehicle Sheets daily, reporting any defects to the Shift Leader/ Team Manager
  15. Ensure staff adhere to Safe Working Practices at all times including:
  16. Use of Personal Protective Equipment
  17. Correct Manual Handling techniques
  18. Use of equipment
  19. Ensure training needs are identified and highlighted to the relevant Shift Leader/ Team Manager
  20. Ensure effective handover with colleagues to ensure any issues are dealt with effectively
  21. Take the appropriate action in the event of a non-conformance issue and clearly communicate issues and concerns to the appropriate Team Manager on shift
  22. Carry out daily, weekly team briefings ensuring that any issues raised are communicated to your manager

This list is not exhaustive, accountabilities may vary dependant on locality or role complexity and may include any other duties considered reasonable by the line manager.

What you'll have:

  1. Excellent people management skills
  2. Experience of dealing with performance issues, grievances, holidays and absence management
  3. Be competent using IT Skills; Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
  4. Ability to plan, organise and delegate
  5. High attention to detail and accuracy, must be methodical, and logical in their approach to work
  6. Ability to solve problems quickly using own initiative
  7. Enthusiastic, self-motivated, proactive and persuasive
