About The RoleThe Dementia Adviser role requires you to work passionately to provide advice, support and guidance to people affected by dementia, carers and their families. Team Sahara at The Alzheimer's Society are proud to have a small but passionate team with a welcoming and supportive culture.This role will be supporting the South Asian community within the Greater Manchester area, so we are looking for someone who is fluent in one or more South Asian languages including Urdu, Punjabi, Hindi and in particular Bangla or Gujarati as well as English. You will be working Wednesday, Thursday & Friday - 21 hours a week. We are a Dementia Support Service dedicated to serving the South Asian Community in Greater Manchester. You will: - Offer a vital and compassionate service providing information, a referral and signpost service as well as emotional and practical support to people affected by dementia and their families. - Managing referrals and case loads - Supporting our Memory Cafés and other group activities - Facilitating information and awareness raising events - Delivering talks and presentations to public audiences. - Build relationships with a range of local contacts, networking with health and care professionals, marketing Alzheimer's Society services and providing dementia support. - Develop networks and pathways with partner organisations who work in the field of dementia, ensuring seamless and consistent support and empowering individuals affected by dementia to make informed choices. - Provide support face-to-face, by telephone and online.About youWe are hoping to welcome a passionate and knowledgeable Dementia Adviser to work in Greater Manchester as part of Team Sahara but also as part of the wider Greater Manchester team. This is an amazing opportunity to have a rewarding career providing support and guidance to people living with or affected by dementia. We strive to help maintain independence, improving sense of well-being, and putting people in more control of their own lives. We promote a person-centred, service so that our support is unique to everyone, based upon their own aspirations and needs.You are: - Someone who has working experience of assessing people face to face with an ability to assess their needs - Deliver advice and guidance with a non-judgmental approach and have outstanding communication skills - Strong organisational and time management skills to manage your caseload of clients effectively - Good IT skills - It is essential that you have the means to travel independently across Greater Manchester, with an expectancy to attend regular meetings across the area - An understanding of dementia and the needs of those living with dementia and their carers would be an advantage - Fluent in Urdu and English as well as Bangla or Gujarati and other South Asian languages. - Confidence in public speaking and ability to deliver presentations in different languages if necessary.Interviews for this role have been provisionally scheduled to take place via MS Teams on w/c 25th.
